The texts collected in this anthology testify to the rich, complex, many-faced nature of Israel. Those treading its paths discover its vasts variety of roads, trails and lanes. Israel - the state, the people, the story - spreads out like a kaleidoscopic fan, fed and renewed by the diverse spirits that pulse and hover through it constantly.

The anthology comprises eight chapters, each dedicated to a different aspect of Israel. Each of these chapters contains several texts written by Israeli or Jewish American authors and poets. Each text appears in two or three versions: the poems in Hebrew and English, the excerpts of prose in Hebrew and English as well as simplified Hebrew, to aid those readers, who do not speak it as a mother tongue.
For the readers' convenience the texts are accompanied by information and short explanations about the texts and the writers. Readers can also refer to the glossary of difficult terms that appears beside the texts.
