The Summer Shlichim Program is very proud of the longstanding, successful partnership in bringing Israeli counselors to work in over 200 Jewish summer camp around the world. The Summer Shlichim (delegates) Program operate under the auspices of the Department for Jewish Zionist Education at the Jewish Agency. The Department initiates and organizes many varied educational programs to strengthen the links between Israel and Jewish communities across the world.
For more then 40 years, The Summer Shlichim Program has been sending thousands of young Israeli leaders to work as staff members at over 200 Jewish Summer Camps in the United States, Canada, Europe, Great Britain & South Africa.
This past summer (2009) the Mishlachat (delegation) reached over 1200 Shlichim!
The success of the Program cannot be measured in numbers, but rather in the special relationships that have formed over the years between the Shlichim and the people they have met during the summer - whether it be campers or staff members. It is estimated that each year the Shlichim meet with over 80,000 Jewish young people who enjoy a Jewish camping experience. At both day and resident camps the Shlichim have an opportunity to meet the camper's families and other Jewish community members, a number far exceeding 200,000 people each and every summer.
Our Mission at the Department for Jewish Zionist education : To intensify the unique and multi-dimensional significance of Israel in connecting the next generation to its heritage, people and homeland.
Our goal at The Summer Shlichim Program is to send trained, experienced leaders, bringing Israeli and Jewish spirit and culture to Jewish Summer Camps and to strength personal connections between the Israeli Shaliach and the campers and staff.
The interaction of our Shlichim has proven to be tremendously valuable to the camps atmosphere. These are the best of Israel's young leaders who have served either in the Army or National Service, speak very good English and come willing and wanting to bring a little taste of Israel with a "suitcase” overflowing of ideas and Educational materials to share with the campers and the staff at your camp.
