"Holiday Vacation" Camp in St. Petersburg
ages 7-10
The summer camps in the FSU began operations in early June. One of the first summer camps to open the season was held in a beautiful camp site near the village of Repino, an hour's drive from St. Petersburg. This camp had 70 campers, ages 7 – 10 and 15 counselors.
This year the educational part of the camp was devoted to Jewish calendar and Jewish holidays. The participants received calendars on the first day of the camp, where they marked holidays, pasted in pictures and flagged interesting things. Also, they took an active part in Jewish holidays – celebrated Rosh Ha-Shanah, built a Sukkah, and made Purim costumes and partook in a mock Purim carnival.
Every morning the participants received letters describing the holidays and events which were going to take place on that day.

Among the most interesting and unusual events at the camp was acquaintance with Torah scroll, especially brought to camp fro St Petersburg. Every participant had a chance to see a real scroll with their own eyes.
Another notable event was "Pesach (Passover) Quest" – the participants moved in groups from station to station, where they solved problems and dilemmas and answered questions connected to the holiday. If a question was answered right or a problem solved a group received a piece of a puzzle, which later were assembled into a big picture on the history of the holiday:
