Reading fiction about Israel is a fun way of learning more about Israeli society today. Israel is home to a vibrant literary culture, from Meir Shalev's kibbutzim to Yael Hedaya's Tel Aviv cafes to David Grossman's Jerusalem streets. If you care about Israel, but want to look beyond the newspaper headlines, we invite you to check out the books listed above and start reading! Enjoy!

Starting a book group is easy! All you need to do is phone a few friends or colleagues, choose a book to start with, and select a place and time to meet. Then you each purchase the book and read it on your own time. Before your meeting, print out the corresponding study guide and make copies for everyone in the group.

For general advice and suggestions on how to start a book group, see this website:

We welcome your feedback on your group experience. Please contact us at makom@jafi.org. We look forward to hearing from  you!
