The Beetle (2008)
52 mins. Directed by Yishai Orian
Yishai Orian, the director of this comic documentary and the owner of an old Volkswagen beetle is about to become a father. His mechanic says that the car will not last long, while his wife complains that the car is unsuitable for a baby. Attempting to keep his beloved car, Yishai goes on a journey that begins with the previous owners of the beetle, continues to Jordan to renovate the old car, and ends with the birth of his first child. The exciting, funny, sad, and intimate memories of the beetle’s previous owners blend with the director’s personal story.
This is a delightful movie, that gently brushes along questions of how responsibilities limit freedom in a contemporary Israeli fable.

Black over White (2008)
49 mins. Director Tomer Heymann

The concert in Addis Ababa is not just another performance by the Idan Raichel Project, but a journey back to the homeland of two of the Project's lead singers, Cabra Casay and Avi Vograss Vesa. The film raises questions about identity and seeks to reawaken the pain of immigration, which is still there even after so many years, rekindling the authenticity and bond to the place that will exist forever in their minds and hearts.
A powerful film that asks questions of the limits of our peoplehood, the nature of immigrants’ freedom, and the connection to the land.

Transparent Kippa (2006)
50 mins, director Ido Bahat

Oren Harman and Yanay Ofran embark upon a personal journey to the heart of contemporary “Israeliness”. They discuss what has to the religious identity as defined over the last 50 years. Have the religious defining and dividing lines of old been updated? Reworked? Have they become inexorably intertwined? Are we witnessing the redefinition of these identities, or in fact the trench warfare which has unfolded between them?
A film that delves intelligently into the way in which freedom in our own land has led to a re-shaping of the Jewish identity of our People.
