Nazareth Illit

Facts about the community:

  • Founded in 1954-56
  • Current population: 43,900
  • Ethnic and religious makeup of the city is 91.0% Jewish and other non-Arabs, 9.0% Arab (2.3% Muslim and 6.7% Christian).
  • 15.2% of the population are retired senior citizens (over age 65)
  • Ranks 5 out of 10 on the socioeconomic scale (according to the National Bureau of Statistics)
  • 2,437 local residents are in need (according to the local Department of Welfare)
  • 4,179 children are immigrants, 654 of which are in need (according to the local Department of Social Services)
  • 5,368 children and youth are registered in regional educational frameworks:
    • 2,821 are in elementary school
    • 1,250 are in junior high school
    • 1,297 are in high school
  • City industries include commercial and tourist businesses

As part of its mission to rebuild the Galilee and restore vibrant communities across the region, the Jewish Agency seeks your support to repair and renovate the following community buildings:
