Partnership 2000 Creates Mosaics at Israel@ 60 Celebration in Washington DC
15.6.2008

This week a small Artist's delegation, organized by Partnership 2000 of the Jewish Agency,  returned from the Israel@60 celebrations in the National Mall in Washington DC. Orly Resnick a Mosaic artist from Kibbutz Tzora in Mateh Yehuda was chosen. Along with her as a representative of the P2K office and an artist as well was Amit Zehavi.

Together, Orly & Amit facilitated the Mosaic workshop for the general public.

Over 50,000 people attended the events at the National mall.

One of the Participants commented:

"After walking through every tent and observing or engaging in every activity at the Israel @60 celebration, I found that your tent and activity was the most powerful of all.  Your posters were well written and easily understood.  Your activity of making the mosaic squares and then combining it was the only activity that encompassed all age groups with all levels of skill and truly exemplified what working together can achieve.  I saw it in the eyes of the children as their eyes brightened and their smiles increased as they brought their piece of the mosaic puzzle and helped to make it an entire "mosaic picture".  It was the most creative activity with a purpose, that is, to teach the lesson of partnership while making something that will be long lived and remembered as well as enjoyed by many.  It was extremely symbolic, more so then any other activity, in that it showed how the joining of Israel and America can work together to create a piece of beauty that also symbolizes unity.  An amazing accomplishment with the amount of planning and coordination that was involved in making this all happen.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share with you how strongly I feel and how incredibly impressed I was of all of you and your tent".

In addition to this activity, the artist taught workshops throughout the week in several JCC's & Jewish day schools.

Each individual was handed a 10X10 cm piece, and created his or hers part in the larger mosaic.

The result were three 1X1 meter mosaics created by hundreds of Washington Jewish community members.

They will be displayed in the Jewish Federation & 2 JCC's.
