The first celebration was organized especially for the youth while the community at large had a separate event.
The youth celebration, attended by 80 members, started with a quiz on Zionism and Israel (with a ticket to Israel as the main prize) and continued with a party attended by some 200 young people.
Another 80 members participated at the second celebration at the Jewish Cultural Centre. Mr. Dan Cohen, President of the Zionist Federation welcomed the gathering. The speeches were interspersed throughout the evening with delicious kosher Jewish foods (sweets, sandwiches and other delicatessen), music, and as a surprise end of the evening folk dancing. The first speaker was Eldad Hayed, Cultural Attaché at the Israeli Embassy, who added some personal comments to the speech he read by Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom. Dan Cohen, then addressed the crowd and convincingly argued how well deserved the Jerusalem Prize was in the hands of Professor Janssen. And last but not least, Professor Janssen form the Simon Wiesenthal Institute in Bruxelles, gave a lecture on the history of anti-Semitism and its present day form. Professor Janssen recently published an analysis of anti-Semitism in Palestinian schoolbooks, mainly financed with money from the European Union and its member states. Professor Janssen published an analysis of the anti-Semitism in the schoolbooks, which has recently been translated into English.
