A Drama in Six Episodes

By Steven Klein

I. Introduction

In June 2002, following 20 months of incessant suicide attacks, and in the wake of growing public pressure to ‘do something’, the Israeli government voted to start constructing a ‘security fence’ to protect Israeli citizens from such attacks. As construction has progressed so has the debate over its existence. This web drama is an educational series meant to facilitate exploring the issues concerning this fence. The basic nature of the controversy over that structure currently being built west of the Jordan River is the labeling of just what it is; the drama opens with Episode One. In further episodes you can learn about the structure itself, use a summary of Internet searches to help understand the backgrounds and attitudes of the interested parties, and finally through a section of ‘points to ponder’ generate informed discussions on the topic.
