Community Projects to Restore the North - Maalot Tarshiha

Maalot Tarshiha

Facts about the community:

  • Created in 1963 from the municipal merge of the Israeli Arab town of Tarshiha and the Jewish town of Ma'a lot
  • Current population: 20,900
  • More than 10% of the population are retired senior citizens (over age 65)
  • Ethnic and religious makeup of the city was 79.7% Jewish and other non-Arabs, and 20.0% Arab (8.9% Muslim, 9.9% Christian, and 1.0% Druze)
  • Ranks 4 out of 10 on the socioeconomic scale (according to the National Bureau of Statistics)
  • 1,209 local residents are in need (according to the local Department of Welfare)
  • 1,418 children are immigrants, 169 of which are in need (according to the local Department of Social Services)
  • 6,300 residents are children and youth (ages 0-17)
  • 4,279 Jewish and Arab children and youth are registered in regional educational frameworks:
    • 1,926 are in elementary school
    • 1,062 are in junior high school
    • 1,209 are in high school

As part of its mission to rebuild the Galilee and restore vibrant communities across the region, the Jewish Agency seeks your support to repair and renovate the following community buildings:

Hit by a Katyusha missle during the war, this community center requires repair and upgrading.  Upgrade exterior; seal roof; improve bathrooms and kitchenette; replace existing furniture; repair electrical system; replace playground facilities in the yard; replace windows and doors; replace existing equipment

Dor Ve’Dor Community Center

 

Located in neighborhood with many new immigrants and families with many children, the existing center is too small to accommodate the community’s growing needs. Additional construction and equipment is required

Letkumot Learning Center – Ma’alot

 

Requires expansion and upgrading

Tarshicha Community Center and Museum

 

Located in a neighborhood with many large families, the existing center is in a very old building too small to accommodate the community’s growing needs.  Renovations, additional construction and equipment is required

Institute for Research and Advanced Studies teaching community subjects such

 

4 projects –
1. 8000 seat auditorium as part of the Institute complex.  Total cost for construction $6,000,000.  $4,500,000 has been secured

Establishment of a tourist center at the Monoport Lake
