Yesterday, I suddenly found myself in a bomb shelter in central Jerusalem.
The experience of being here has been sobering, compelling and also inspiring: seeing all of us come together and support one another in a time of crisis. As the conflict here in Israel escalates, as the fighting intensifies and as the rockets continue to fire, I realize that as much as we are one people, we have entirely different perspectives when we are here rather than there. It’s one thing to read about missiles in Tel Aviv and worry about your family here, when you are far away in Cleveland or anywhere else outside of Israel. It’s entirely another thing when you are here in Israel, living it and breathing it.
Being here has reinforced my sense of peoplehood. We all share one destiny, as we are strengthened by one other.
When this conflict started, we resolved to stay and continue our work and life here. We want to communicate our unwavering support during this heartbreaking time. Our global Jewish community continues to stand with Israel, joining in a universal prayer for peace.
