Ariel Sharon Memorial Service

The SA Zionist Federation in association with the Embassy of Israel and the Office of the Chief Rabbi held a memorial service to honour the memory of Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of the State of Israel, brave and courageous soldier, brilliant leader and true son of Israel, who passed away on Saturday 11th January 2014 after a long struggle.

The service took place at the Yeshiva College Shul, on Wednesday evening, 15th January.

Heartfelt messages from dignitaries were delivered to a capacity crowd and a moving audio visual was screened highlighting Ariel Sharon’s career and triumphs.

The proceedings were chaired by Rabbi Laurence Perez, and Hazkara was delivered by Chazan Chilly Chrysler. Shimon Shamila, Director of the Israel Centre, recited Tzahal, a prayer for solders in the IDF.

The signing of the book of condolences was open to the public at the ceremony allowing mourners to express their grief.
