Laurnece Englander Member of the Board of Governors
Rabbi Lawrence Allen Englander is the Chair of Arzenu, since June 2014. He is a Member of the Order of Canada, for community service. He received his Doctor of Divinity degree, from the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, Cincinnati, Ohio and his Doctor of Hebrew Letters degree, HUC-JIR, Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1975 Rabbi Engalnder received his Rabbinical Ordination, HUC-JIR, Cincinnati. He received the Simon Lazarus Memorial Prize for highest academic standing, and the Morris H. Youngerman Memorial Prize for the best Senior chapel sermon. His Rabbinical Thesis: Enoch: the Development of a Biblical Patriarch in Apocalyptic, Mystical and Rabbinic Literature. Rabbi Englander has a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters, HUC-JIR, Cincinnati and
Hon. Bachelor of Arts, York University, Toronto.
Rabbi Engalnder publichsed numerous publications, among others, his book The Mystical Study of Ruth: Midrash HaNe'elam of the Zohar to the Book of Ruth. Atlanta: Scholars Press, 1993.
His teaching experience include Rabbi of Solel Congregation, Mississauga, Ontario;
Visiting faculty at Leo Baeck College, London, U.K., 1999; Part-time faculty in Religious Studies, York University, 1991-1997; Part-time faculty, McMaster University, Department of Religious Studies, 1989-90; Weekend scholar-in-residence at several synagogues.
In the past he served as the Editor of CCAR Journal; he is Member, International Council of New Israel Fund; he is also Member, CCAR Board of Trustees; he is the Founding Board member, Foodpath and Founding President, Pathway Community Developments.
He is a Board member since July 2014.
