Susan Laxer Member of the Board of Governors
Susan Laxer has been active in the Montreal Jewish community for many years. She has chaired and played a leadership role in various Federation CJA committees including planning and allocations, strategic planning, the Judaic commission, and as treasurer. She is a past president of the Bronfman Jewish Education Centre and has been active in day schools, as Vice President of Akiva School and as Chair of the Board of The Hebrew Academy School. Susan currently is the President of Federation CJA and a member of the Board of Directors of Jewish Federations Canada - UIA.
A Wexner Heritage graduate, Susan has been recognized in her community as a recipient of both the Young Leadership Award and the Distinguished Leadership Award of Federation CJA.
Susan holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and the Order of Chartered Professional Accountants of Quebec. Her career began as a CA, becoming the first female partner at Zittrer, Siblin, Stein, Levine, a national accounting firm, and continued as a partner at Ernst & Young in Montreal. Susan is currently Vice President of Laxer Fibre Co. Ltd., a third generation family yarn import and distribution company.
Ms. Laxer is married to Alain Matarasso, a CPA and businessman and they have three children: Sarah married to Gilad Greenfeld, Danielle, and Noah; and three grandsons, Eitan, Tal and Uri.
