Local Preliminary QuizzesA. Local (School/Community/Synagogue) Quizzes
  • The local school/community/synagogue holds a preliminary quiz. Preparations for the quiz include local advertisements and holding Bible study programs or private lessons for the contestants. Writing the questions, choosing judges, awarding prizes, etc. are the responsibility of the local organization
  • The quiz is held at the relevant organization. We recommend turning this into a big community event and inviting parents, family members, friends, etc. to cheer the contestants.

B.   Country-Wide Quizzes

  • Winners of the previous quizzes will participate in a quiz for all contestants from that country. This can be a significant community event, held in a community center, synagogue hall, etc.
  • The local quiz community of each country will choose the judges and be responsible for organizing the event. Judges are generally prominent community leaders, Rabbis, synagogue presidents, etc., but can also be representatives from the Jewish Agency, JNF-KKL and others.
  • Questions should be written by a local person, who is knowledgeable in Bible studies. The Quiz Administration in Israel can help appoint a suitable person.
  • Winners of this stage (according to the quota for each country) will come to Israel to participate in the International Bible Camp.

The Bible Camp

The International Bible Camp is a unique, Jewish-Zionist project for Jewish youths from Jewish communities around the world.  Together, the youths travel around Israel in the footsteps of the Bible, visit important and historic sites, learn more about the Bible and its historic context, walk about Israel’s beautiful landscape, and enjoy the good-heartedness of the Land and its People.  The group meets with intellectuals, top-ranking government officials and military officials; additionally, they get to hear, talk with, taste and see the human mosaic that is modern day Israel.  This is a deep, fundamental and ideological experience for all youths.  What’s more, it is fun and extremely enjoyable.  It’s the experience of a lifetime!

The camp includes study and preparation days in the run-up to the International Bible Quiz held on Independence Day, with a final written test to choose the sixteen finalists.  It is an event in which vast resources and a great deal of time, intensive planning, and thought have been invested.  The quiz will be filmed and broadcast live on Israel State Television.

For the organizers of the Bible Quiz this event of Jewish youth, separated in their day-to-day lives by continents, time zones and oceans, is an educational experience, brought together by the Book of Books, getting acquainted and encountering each other’s culture, language, and way of thinking, and maintaining ties even after they return to the countries they come from and represent.

Written Quiz in Israel

The preliminary test in writing will be held at the beginning of Bible Camp.  This is the primary and significant quiz.  Points accumulated in the written test will be added to the points gained in the public Diaspora Quiz and in the International Quiz.

The Diaspora Quiz

A public test will be held in an Israeli city for all Diaspora representatives, during which a winner and two runners-ups will be chosen.  In the Diaspora Quiz, 16 top representatives of each country, i.e., those who have scored the highest number of points from among their own countrymen/women, will compete against each other.  Additionally, among the remaining representatives, those who have scored the highest number of points in the preliminary test will be entered in the remaining places in the World Quiz.

The World Bible Quiz

Four representatives from Israel and twelve from around the world participate in the World Bible Quiz, contesting for the Bible Chatan/Kallah title. The general layout of the quiz is similar to the previous stages in Israel: a written test and three public rounds. The third stage, presenting identical questions to all contestants, is known as the Prime Minister’s Question. At the end of the Quiz a Chatan/Kallah and four runners-up are awarded their titles, and the Diaspora and local winners are also called to the stage.

No knowledge of Hebrew is required in order to participate in any of these stages. The questions and answers will be stated in Hebrew, but for contestants who are not fluent in Hebrew, they will be translated orally, and in writing, into the language spoken in their country of origin.
