14-0 Introduction

There are many potential perspectives for educational processing of the recent war, the ongoing tension over Israel's northern border, and their implications. They correspond to the issues, the questions we wish to address as educators, and the purpose of our exploration.  While these programming ideas and activities obviously go hand in hand with the foundation resources on aspects of the war and its consequences brought in this series, they were primarily selected because of their ability to translate such content into a range of educational settings, rather than because they cover all possible areas of discussion.

Lessons and educational encounters should be planned as a progressive series, bearing in mind the need to be age appropriate and targeted at an appropriate level. A single encounter will not suffice, but an initial meeting about the war and our participants' impressions, with plenty of information posted around in an attempt to delineate some important facts, will work for many settings; you can then progress to additional focuses. It is difficult to gage what participants may already know, but one should assume that : a] participants will have acquired most of their information from the media, and that: b] there will be gaps in their knowledge about Israel and the background to Israel's war with Hizbullah this summer [2006]. Much depends, too, on how focal Israel is in participants' own lives, at home and in the community.

We hope that you will be able to build a challenging, helpful program from the links below. We have attempted to cross-classify the activities currently available on websites through their content area and purpose, providing outline descriptions in relation to subject and type of content. Some links will be featured a second time in the Advocacy section. Once you have outlined your area of interest and the kind of programming you seek, you may need to make some adaptations to the available online resources. NB.: Values clarification, as opposed to analysis of images and texts, is appropriate only for adolescent ages and above.
