New York, June 3, 2011 - The Jewish Agency will be participating in the Celebrate Israel Parade this Sunday, June 5th, with a float that celebrates the connection of Jewish youth to the global Jewish community and Israel through music and song.

The float will feature the Tizmoret a capella group as well as young contestants in the Jewish Agency sponsored Hallelujah Global Singing Contest. Two of contestants will be performing on the float; 20 year old Rebecca Moritz, originally from Florida, made Aliyah to Israel when she was 10 and Annie Nirschel, 16, who is from Stamford, Connecticut. The contest attracted thousands of talented young Jewish singers from around the world who competed to be the next Jewish "Idol". Thirty finalists will be invited to Israel to experience three weeks in the country, complete with singing lessons and rehearsals with top Israeli musicians. The grand finale, to be held in the summer in Ramat Hasharon, is a live concert in front of thousands which will be broadcast on Israeli TV.  No less important, the contestants will travel throughout Israel and get to know the country, connecting with their Jewish roots and experiencing Israel in a very personal way, through the power of music and song. Hebrew, for the mass of Hallelujah fans in the audience

Also aboard the float is Tizmoret, now in its sixteenth year as Queens College Hillel's professional Jewish a cappella group. Tizmoret draws singers from colleges throughout New York City and has taken Jewish collegiate a cappella to the next level, performing classic Jewish melodies, American pop music and contemporary Israeli tunes. They have produced four CDs, with their most recent release - Sounds in My Head - receiving critical acclaim in contemporary Jewish and secular a cappella circles.

The float will leave from 56th St. and 5th Ave. at approximately 1:30 pm. Pictures will be available upon request following the parade.
