Jewish Agency for Israel Initiates Petition to American Red Cross on Behalf of Kidnapped Israeli Soldier Gilad Shalit Held Captive by Hamas in Gaza in Advance of his 23rd Birthday on August 28

For more than three years, Gilad Shalit has been held hostage. It is believed he is being held somehwere in Southern Gaza. Since his capture, his parents have received three handwritten letters from him.

The International Red Cross has been denied access to Gilad, and his exact whereabouts and physical conditions are unknown. On August 28th, Gilad will turn 23 years old.

According to the Geneva Convention (1949), every prisoner of war is entitled to be visited by representatives of the International Red Cross (IRC).
