KIBBUTZ BEIT ALFA: The Beit Alfa-Gilboa Absorption Center has recently been given a face-lift. A volley-ball court for the use of new immigrants from Ethiopia was constructed on its grounds and inaugurated at the end of April.
Tourists who visited The Jewish Agency absorption center at the foot of Mount Gilboa in the Jezreel Valley gifted the center with a volley-ball court and a full range of equipment.
The donors were tourists visiting Israel on a package-tour organized by the Gate 1 Travel. The Israeli branch of the company decided a year ago that, in addition to visiting regular tourist sites and points of interest in Israel, it is important to show tourists activities for Aliyah (immigration) and absorption.
Gate 1, in co-operation with The Jewish Agency's Missions Unit has, during the past year, brought over 40 groups to Jewish Agency absorption centers.
When participants on a tour of Beit Alfa noticed a number of Olim playing with an old volleyball in the lawn near the Ulpan (Hebrew school), their response was to donate enough money to fund the purchase of equipment and the constructing of a volleyball court for the immigrants.
Leon Levitas, who accompanied the tourists on their visits of absorption programs, and who is retiring after 34 years of working for The Jewish Agency, was present at the inauguration of the new volleyball court at the end of April. He described the joy of the Beit Alfa team as they challenged the donors to a game on the new court.A new volleyball court is inaugurated at the Beit Alfa Absorption Center in Gilboa.Aliyah
