Since Yom Kippur, the Boulder area (near Denver) of Colorado has been hit with intense storms which have caused widespread flooding (that has covered 20% of Colorado's landmass and caused immense damage to entire residential neighborhoods). Over 20,000 buildings have been damaged or swept away entirely and their residents have been evacuated.
As you may know, the community in Colorado has maintained a strong partnership with Israel through its Partnership with Ramat HaNegev and Nitzana. During these years, the Colorado community has supported Ramat HaNegev during ordinary times and of course times of emergency in Israel.
Currently, our roles have been switched and we want to assist our Partnership community abroad.
As part of the sincere and deep solidarity between the communities, we are preparing to take part in getting the Denver/Boulder community organized and back on its feet.
An initial group of volunteers from Ramat HaNegev set out this week, in cooperation with IsrAID. The volunteers will be focused mainly on clearing debris and renovating, in order to enable evacuated residents to return to their homes.
At the same time, donations are being gathered from all corners of the United States by a special relief fund to assist the tens of thousands of those impacted by the flooding.
The Jewish community in Colorado has taken upon itself the task of raising funds and has created a website through which a symbolic $18 donation (or more) can be made. The website's address is www.jewishcolorado.org
The Ramat HaNegev Regional Council is also donating from existing emergency funds, and all residents have received a letter encouraging them to donate.
We are turning to you, personally, and requesting that we all come together to assist our partners in the Jewish Community; and that we show the unity and solidarity that exists between all of the families in this partnership, by way of a symbolic donation. Our help will give expression to the value of the mutual partnership between us.
We hope that you can help.
With best wishes,
The Partnership2Gether Team, Ramat HaNegev – Denver, Colorado
