Operation Guardian of the Walls

Defending Israel and Its People

Israel Under Fire

Between May 10-21, 2021, when a ceasefire was reached, thousands of rockets were launched at Israel from Gaza by Hamas, causing fear, panic, destruction and loss of life.

Throughout the missile attacks, The Jewish Agency concentrated our crisis response in three sectors: caring for Jewish Agency beneficiaries who depend on us 24/7 for their protection, safety, and security; providing assistance to the broader Israeli society and those especially in need during the emergency situation; and mobilizing global solidarity movements with communities and partners from the Jewish world. This included ensuring the safety of 3,900 olim (immigrants) in the South in the cities of Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ibim-Sderot Beer-Sheva, Kiryat Gat as well as 3,000 senior Amigour residents in areas under fire.

Our CEO and Director-General, Amira Ahronoviz, even traveled to Ashkelon amidst the barrage of rockets, visiting a Jewish Agency Absorption Center and Amigour housing complex, and meeting with our dedicated staff and new olim there. You can read her firsthand account here.
