For the second consecutive year, the Jewish Agency for Israel and Geographical Tours are joining forces to undertake one of the most exciting Jewish women-to-women experiences: Desert Queen 2009.
What is "Desert Queen"?
"Desert Queen" is a jeep expedition exclusively for women which takes place in some of the most exotic and challenging landscapes in the world. It combines a competitive outdoor adventure and 4WD driving expedition with personal development. The participants are put to the test as individuals - and no less important - as a team.
Each expedition is based on a 4x4 jeep convoy in which the female team members drive the jeep in challenging terrain. Desert Queen also includes hiking, self-exploration, teamwork, sleeping under the stars, and so much more. The expedition is led by an experienced guide and includes full logistical support including a full time doctor.
The Ultimate Women-to-Women Experience
In 2008, in honor of Israel's 60th celebration of independence, the Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 Program joined Geographic Tours and for the first time Jewish women from communities across the globe joined Israeli women in the first Desert Queen expedition to take place in Israel. It was an incredible experience: Through the eyes of the overseas participants, the Israeli women rediscovered their love for Israel - and through the eyes of the Israeli women, the Jewish women from the overseas communities discovered a new and exciting Israel. Due to the overwhelming success of this program, we have now started an annual tradition.
Desert Queen: Some History
In 1999, the first expedition to place between Israel and Jordanians to bring a message of peace. Since then, Desert Queen has taken place in Turkey, Ethiopia, Thailand, India and other exciting locations. Last year alone, 12 expeditions including 575 women made their way through the beautiful terrain of South Africa.
