Thanks to a contribution made by the Western Connecticut Jewish Community, elementary school children from Afula, Gilboa and Bustan El Marj will receive instruction and guidance towards improving their dental health and recognizing the significance of proper care of their teeth. The classes will be taught by certified dental assistants who will work in coordination with representatives of the three municipal Education Departments and JAFI. Some 10,000 elementary school children from the region will participate in the program that will be taught in a series of classroom sessions. At the conclusion of the program, the children will be provided with a dental health care kit for them to use at home.
The project's goal is to enhance the children's awareness surrounding dental health care and the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene from a young age as a long-term investment.
The school educational program is part of a comprehensive dental health project initiated by the Western Connecticut Jewish Community. The second part of this program is the establishment of a state of the art dental clinic at the "Emek" Medical Center that will meet the needs of those sectors of the population that are unable to afford standard dental care. This will be followed by the creation of a maxillofacial department with funding from the community.
