On Holocaust and Martyrs Remembrance Day, Afula/Gilboa hosted a mission from Hartford.
The day began with the two-minute siren, when we all stood perfectly still with residents of Beit Uri (a residential facility for the developmentally disabled) in memory of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust.
The touching ceremony left us all teary-eyed. After the ceremony, the mission participants attended various workshops and spoke with the local principal.
During the rest of the day, they visited the "Emek" hospital, the Merchavia Absorption Center for Ethiopians and the "Jalame" check point.
The mission members were able to get a close look at the life of those Gilboa residents living next to Jenin. The end of this most successful day saw the participants being hosted by local Afula and Gilboa families for an authentic Israeli dinner.
