During the past few years a tradition has been established, wherein eleventh-graders participate in money-making projects or campaigns, whose profits are used to finance the annual March of the Living trip to Poland. This year, the students cleaned up the local Industrial Zone, earning NIS 25,000 from the Regional Council and the Development Co. On presenting the money, Regional Council Head Lilach Morgan congratulated the students and noted that “this project may be assessed from various points of view: It is the result of your desire to work and earn money and ours to clean up the industrial zone. But besides these two obvious reciprocal contributions, there are also covert, loftier values – participating in and contributing to the community, taking responsibility for your Region’s appearance and love of the Land of Israel.”
The students were asked what made them decide to get up one Friday morning and start cleaning: “The trip to Poland is very important to us. It’s a goal for which we’re willing to sweat. We are a small class of about 25 students and it’s important to us that all students in our grade participate in the program despite the considerable expense. We had the opportunity to raise most of the money required and that’s why we rallied energetically to the task. We hope social-community cooperation activities will be conducted in coming years as well.”
