Twelve Arava volunteers aged 50 and up recently formed the Social Community Initiative Group, to promote awareness, motivation and interest in a variety of enrichment activities.
The Israel Association of Community Centers operates a nationwide program for people aged 50+ that includes training sessions. With the help of professional facilitation, participants learned how to plan and develop leisure‑time and community programs for their age group, and applied group dynamics to achieve social cohesion. The group meets once every two weeks and has already drafted its vision:
To establish a Leisure-Time Center for the local adult population that provides a venue for social encounters and leisure-time enrichment, community and health programs, as well as personal and intellectual development. The Center will be operated by a group of older residents responsible for both organizational and financial administration.
