About 200 members of the Jewish Community of Detroit, Michigan spent two days in the Central Galilee as part of a larger National Solidarity Mission.
The mission visit began with a Solidarity March, joined by hundreds of Central Galilee citizens, along the eastern slopes of Timrat overlooking the breathtaking beauty of the Central Galilee - Migdal HaEmek, Nazareth Illit and the Jezrael Valley.
Mayor Eli Barda of Migdal HaEmek, the Israeli Chair of the Partnership 2000 Steering Committee, greeted the guests from Detroit recognizing the tragic events that had struck the American Nation that same day. "You have come to express your support of Israel in its struggle to find Peace, but today, we stand here, sharing your pain, extending our support and expressing our deepest shock on the brutal attack brought on New York and Washington".
At the end of the speeches, hundreds of people marched bearing signs in support of the special bond that binds American Jewry to the State of Israel.
The event continued on the lawns of the swimming pool in Kibbutz G'vat. Designated Federation President Mr. Larry Jacquier greeted the participants emphasizing the strong ties that unite Jews in America and Israel and asked for a minute of silence in memory of the innocent victims of the terror attack on New York and Washington. Mr. Jacquier noted the unique Partnership of a shared destiny in light of the tragic events in America.
