Coping in Haifa - Immigrant Populations
24.7.2006

Hi Karen,

First of all, thanks for all the support that we have been receiving from you by email.

The Haifa Municipality has opened a “Situational Room” that receives current updates and decides what to do in every situation and event.

The general population living on the Carmel is behaving with discipline and is in their homes in accordance with the Home Front instructions.

The confused populations are the Ethiopians and the Russians.

Regarding the Ethiopian population, especially in east Haifa, we decided to prepare Activity Kits for the home shelters only (we aren’t allowed to gather people in public shelters). In addition, we have exceptionally allowed youth madrichim to make home visits, in order to explain the situation and to keep the kids occupied.

Kisses,

Rachel Metuki
head of education and culture administration at the Haifa municipality and in charge of the "shiluvim" program for the new immigrants from Ethiopia.
