In preparation for the coming summer, participants in the Or Akiva Women’s Leadership Program organized a massive clean-up of the Caesarea Aqueduct Beach. Large numbers of Or Akiva residents came to lend a hand and the event turned into a giant “happening”.
The Women’s Leadership Program provided a group of Or Akiva women with the opportunity to develop and improve skills necessary for successful, and positive, community activism. Members of the group, which included women born in Or Akiva, recent arrivals from other places in Israel, and new immigrants, met on a weekly basis for over five months, participating in a series of seminars and workshops.
Malka Abukarat, a member of the group who was instrumental in organizing the clean up campaign, has long been active in securing the beaches of Israel for the use of all of the population, “ I feel that I learned a great deal and opened by vistas up to many new directions”, said Malka.
The Women’s Leadership Course was funded through the Partnership 2000 budget of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and by the Israel Lions of Judah.
