One of the many aspects of working with the children participating in the Youth Futures program is group activities with the children meeting together with their trustee on a weekly basis. I thought of some sort of creative activity that would be on-going, worked on for a number of sessions, would combine creativity and social interaction in a friendly, easy-going atmosphere while allowing each child to create his or her own 'masterpiece': sewing decorative pillows for Mother's Day...  more

A Match Made Between Partnership 2000 Sister Cities of St. Louis and Yokneam

Chiyya Smason, son of Rabbi Ze’ev and Rebbetzin Smason, St. Louis, and Chagit Caspi, daughter or Hanan Caspi, Yokneam P2K activist, met at a P2K-sponsored Orthodox Shabbaton. Young people from St. Louis who are in Israel are invited on a regular basis to Yokneam for Shabbatons, conducted by former Young Israel Rabbi Jeffery Bienenfeld. Chagit and Chiyya were engaged this past May and are getting married in Israel the end of December this year...  more

Yokneam Impact

I am sitting here on my last night in Yokneam, and I never want to leave. In about three short weeks, this place has become my home. I walk through the streets of the Mercas (City Center) every morning and every store owner I pass greets me with a warm "shalom." I have never lived in a city before where I am sure to know someone on a bus or walking by on the street. This town is filled with smiling faces and people who want nothing less than for me to enjoy myself and be comfortable. When I leave tomorrow, I will truly be leaving my family...  more

Yokneam’s Multicultural Youth Center - Sometimes Dreams Really Do Come True

Summer vacation has the potential for youth and especially at-risk youth to hang out, be up to no good and generally get into trouble. It’s also a great time to reach out to them, make an extra effort and get them involved in the special summer programs tailored for them. The dream was that different groups of youngsters would feel that the center is a safe and meaningful place for them and this is exactly what is happening there each and every evening. Federations’ ongoing support of youth programs in Yokneam has no doubt assisted in making this dream come true...  more
