Ulpan For New Immigrant Children and Youth

General Information

Introduction
Our Ulpan accepts students aged 10-18 from all countries outside Israel. Upon entry, each student takes a short test to determine his or her appropriate level of study. We have six classes to cover all standards – from beginners to advanced.
Usually, a student spends between four and five months at Ulpan. Students with a sound background in Hebrew (whether obtained from previous studies or use of language at home) may study at Ulpan for a shorter overall period.
The purpose of our courses in Hebrew is to enable the student to prepare for a full program of study within the Hebrew-speaking Israeli school system. After a period of time at Ulpan, he or she should be ready to integrate with the standard high school curricula delivered in the Hebrew language.

Programs for Students
Our more basic courses develop reading, writing, verbal communication, and reading comprehension skills. The more advanced ones additionally include studies in Tenach (Bible), Jewish History, Geography, Civics, Literature and terminology specific to Geometry, Biology and other subjects. Our work also focuses on the culture and festivals of the Jewish People.

Enrichment Studies
All students receive instruction in Art and Music – with emphasis on Israeli songs. In addition, students in grades 9 and 10 have classes in Mathematics.

Social and Cultural Activities
A variety of excursions to places of national cultural interest are an integral part of our programs. We celebrate festivals of both national and Jewish religious importance with appropriate ceremonies and parties. We especially emphasize these events, as they form a very significant part of the cultural matrix into which our students will merge on entering the Israeli school system.

Pastoral
Our counselor and social worker are both on hand to help our students. They deal with a wide range of issues – including problems in adjusting to culture changes, adolescence and early adulthood, family problems, and other situations requiring care and advice

Teaching Facility
All our teaching staff are experienced and fully trained academically-qualified professionals specializing in the teaching of Hebrew to new immigrant high school students. They apply expert knowledge and skills to help students adjust and merge into the Israeli high-school situation.

From Ulpan to High School in Israel
We make every endeavor at all stages to advise on and ease the transition to the regular school system. We have an excellent record of success: indeed many of our past students regularly keep in touch. We advise students on an individual basis, guiding toward the most suitable high school, bearing in mind his or her preferences, and academic record in both the country of origin and at Ulpan.
In addition, we make use of the Hadassa Institute psychometric testing for high school placements.

IMPORTANT!
The warm and personal faculty-student relationships have done much to help our graduates to ease into Israeli society, avoiding the serious problems immigrant students have when transferring directly to Israeli schools – which have led to disaffection and, in extreme situations, dropping out. We require on the part of the student a positive mental attitude and the willingness to work towards becoming part of the many experiences Israel has to offer.

The Ulpan offers instruction between 08:15 and 14:30 – each class according to its teaching hours within the system.
Public transport: Buses 14, 18, 24 to Emek Refaim Street; 7, 8 21 to Hebron Road.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any additional information.
