Gita Berk was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She is a member of the board of directors of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF/JF), and also a member of the Women’s Board of the JUF/JF of Metropolitan Chicago.

Gita was chair of the Aliyah Council of Chicago 2012-2014 and has served as chair of several sub-committees of the Community Building and Jewish Continuity Commission of the JUF/JF. She serves as a committee member of the JUF/JF’s Israel and Overseas Commission, Partnership 2G as well as a committee member on the JUF/JF Overall Planning and Allocations, Marketing and Communications, and the Holocaust Community Services Committees.

She has served as a committee member since June 2015, and is a member of the Board of Governors since July 2023.
