The Jewish Agency for Israel

Benny Biton was born, raised and educated in Dimona and served in the IDF as a soldier in the 50th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade.

In 1989, he began serving as assistant mayor and then as director of the city improvement department. In 1993, he was first elected to the city of Dimona as part of the Likud list and served as deputy mayor and in charge of the city improvement and planning and construction sectors.

In 2011, he was elected to serve as head of the Likud list for the city, and served in a variety of public positions within the Likud movement and in the municipal framework.

In October 2013, he ran again on the Likud list for mayor and won. During his term as mayor, he established four new factories, reduced unemployment rates and increased the municipality’s capacity by signing a new agreement between the Nuclear Research Institute and the municipality. In addition, it was agreed that the Nevatim Air Force Base would form part of its municipal territory, thereby increasing the municipality’s revenues by approximately 3 million shekels per year.
